Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Expressway Company Limited President Chikao Ito
I really appreciate your understanding and support to our project.
The number of casualties and missing due to the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011 were approximately 20,000. A lot of persons are still being constrained to have a refuge life. I really pray for the victims of the Earthquake and wish earliest restoration and reconstruction.
Our company, Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Expressway Company Limited (HSBE), has an essential responsibility for providing expressway service between Honshu and Shikoku. There are almost no alternatives between these two islands except for the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Expressways. Once disasters occur and our business is suspended for a long time, it gives significant damage on a socio-economic activity in the region. We therefore established the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and have specified necessary actions for our business continuity to complete the mission on us. In the BCP, actual action plans and target time were specified with considering 1) To keep safety including human lives and to prevent second accidents, 2) To provide emergency transportation for relief and rehabilitation from disaster, 3) To contribute to regional economic restoration by providing safety transportation through the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Expressways.
The BCP is revised according to the necessity at any time. Especially, we recognized the importance to make actions against Tsunami by the catastrophic situation due to the Great East Japan Earthquake. We are therefore trying to revise the BCP to introduce specific actions against Tsunami.
Our company is committed to operate and manage the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Expressways including world-class long-span bridges which were constructed by the high techniques in the world. We have therefore tried to succeed to these technologies and to contribute to the next development. As one of the Seto-Inland based companies which support regional development, we have completed various activities through responses to social expectations. The first supplementary budget to the earthquake disaster and the related bill were approved in May, 2011. Since the Japan Expressway Holding and Debt Repayment Agency (JEHDRA) returned 250 billion JPY to the Government in order to deal with the restoration of the Great East Japan Earthquake, HSBE revised the fare discount plan. Among the holiday discounts, the maximum 1,000 JPY fare was not available from June 20. However, the 50% discount fare on holidays and the discounts according to the time zones are still available. We would like to promote tourism in cooperation with the associated regions and continuously make efforts to activate local economic condition. Finally, we are aiming to provide satisfactory services for customers to be able to drive our expressways safely, smoothly and comfortably,
Your further understanding and continued support shall be highly appreciated.
