Trend of the Number of Passengers between Honshu and Shikoku by Each Transportation
Passengers between Honshu and Shikoku in 2007 have increased about 1.8 times as many as those in 1984. The number of passengers between Honshu and Shikoku in 2007 is amount to about 141,000 persons daily, which means that the number of passengers exceeds 50 million persons annually. The number of the passengers using the expressways and railway of Honshu-Shikoku Bridge project accounts for about 77% of the whole number of passengers between Honshu and Shikoku.
The trend of the number of passengers using each traffic facility is as follows; 1) passengers for ferries and boats are decreasing, 2) passengers for highways are increasing significantly, 3) passengers for railway was increasing remarkably and then decreasing, and 4) passengers for flight are increasing slightly.
