The 33rd IABSE Symposium in Bangkok

The 33rd International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) Symposium was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 9-11, 2009. This Symposium was organized by the Thai Group of IABSE, Chulalongkorn University and Asian Institute of Technology, as the first IABSE major event in Southeast Asia.

The Symposium aims to provide a forum for academics, researchers and engineers all over the world to exchange views and experiences on how to achieve sustainable infrastructure through planning, design, construction, operation, renovation, retrofitting and repairs.

More than 550 researchers/engineers participated in the symposium from almost 40 countries. From Japan, 45 researchers/engineers took part in the symposium. From HSBE, Mr. Masahiro Takeguchi, Manager for Window and Seismic Engineering Group, Long-span Bridge Engineering Center, gave a poster presentation on technical paper, titled “Seismic Performance Verification of the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge.”

In addition, the technical visit was held in four interesting infrastructure sites, such as the Kanchanaphisek Bridge which is the longest cable stayed bridge in Thailand.

The 34th IABSE Symposium will be held in Venice, Italy on September 22-24, 2010.
