HSBE held technical training “Bridge Management” for Democratic Republic of the Congo
October, 2009/HSBE

HSBE held a technical training on “Bridge Management” for the Congo commissioned by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). HSBE made a training program, coordinated and conducted the training.

Four engineers including the president and the assistant president of the Organization for Equipment Banana-Kinshasa (OEBK), which operates Matadi Bridge in the Congo, attended the training.

Matadi Bridge, a combined bridge for highway and railway like Seto-Ohashi Bridges operated by HSBE, is a suspension bridge, which was completed in 1983. The central span length is 520 m. While constructing the Bridge, HSBA, the former organization of HSBE at that time, dispatched three experts from 1979 to 1984, through JICA, to supervise its construction work.

About 25 years have passed since the Bridge was completed. In the near future, it is supposed that repair or rehabilitation work is required, Therefore, HSBE which has various technical experiences through its project was assigned to hold this training by JICA.

In the technical training, several technologies developed for the maintenance of long-span bridges were lectured to the trainees, and technical visits to Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, the longest span bridge in the world, and Seto-Ohashi Bridges, a combined bridge for highway and railway, were arranged.

HSBE has been conducting country focused technical trainings like this program through JICA since 2007, as an international cooperation and contribution.
