16th International Road Federation (IRF) World Meeting in Lisbon

The 16th International Road Federation (IRF) world meeting was held in Lisbon, Portugal, from May 25 to 28, 2010. This meeting has been held every four years and participants can exchange the information about road policy, road planning, socio-economic assessment, traffic management, technology and so on.

The theme of the meeting 2010 was ”Sharing the Road”. The meeting was composed of the plenary session, workshop and exhibition. The workshop consisted of 33 categories such as environment, asset management and new technology.
HSBE submitted the paper titled “Maintenance Policy of Steel Deck Pavement (Micro Surface Method)” to the meeting and it was accepted to join the meeting as a poster presentation classified in the theme of “Technology and Innovation”.
During the plenary session and workshop, the exhibition was held. Sixty-two countries or organizations in the world participated in the exhibition. Japan Road Association took part in the exhibition with the theme named “High Technology of Japan”. HSBE also displayed its maintenance technology in the exhibition. The topics by HSBE included advanced technologies, such as Dry Air Injection Method and Electro-deposit Method, in order to keep long-span bridges in sound condition more than 200 years.

From HSBE, Mr. Masahiko Takeuchi, Manager of Highway Maintenance Division, Maintenance Operation Department and Mr. Yoshiya Sakamoto, Engineer of First Bridge Maintenance Section, Sakaide Operation Center, attended the world meeting and explained the exhibitions on both Japan Road Association and HSBE
