Himeji City Museum of Art

The red brick building with a view of Himeji Castle above was built in 1905, and is a registered tangible cultural property of the country. It houses local artworks as well as modern and contemporary art from Japan, Belgium, and other countries. Masterpieces of modern French paintings such as Monet’s Sunset at Le Petit Gennevilliers are on permanent display.

- From the Hanshin Express way Kakogawa By pass Himeji Bypass, exit at Himeji-minami Ramp. The museum is approx. 15 minutes from Himeji-minami Ramp.

- On foot: Approx. 20 minutes from JR and Sanyo Electric Railway Himeji Stations(the museum adjoins the east side of Himeji Castle)
- By Shinki Bus: The museum is in front of the “Himeyamakoen-minami /Iryo Center/Bijutsukan-mae” bus stop, served by buses no. 3, 4, 5, 61, 62, 64, 81, 82, 84, and 86 departing from Himeji Station bus stop 7 or 8. The bus ride takes approx.
8 minutes. - By Himeji Castle Loop Bus: Operates daily (Saturdays, Sundays, and holidaysonly from December through February) and costs 100 yen.
