Takahashi Yuichi, known as the “pioneer of Western-style painting in Japan” and “a giant of the late Edo and Meiji periods,” is widely known as a painter of “Salmon” (owned by Tokyo University of the Arts, an important cultural property) and “Oiran” (owned by Tokyo University of the Arts, an important cultural property). The Takahashi Yuichi Museum has a permanent exhibition of many of his works from the Kotohira Shrine collection.
